This is a communion sermon that focuses on the spiritual presence of Christ in the life of the believer and, particularly, with the administering and receiving of the Lord’s Supper. On the night of our Lord’s betrayal, the eve of his crucifixion, Jesus explained to his disciples that he was about to leave them, and they would not be able to come with him. Later they learned that he was speaking of his ascending to heaven after his crucifixion and resurrection, where they would join him later. Jesus promised that in the interim he would not leave his disciples alone as if they were orphans, but would send the Helper, the Holy Spirit to be their—and our—daily Comforter. Each time we come to the Lord’s table of communion we experience anew the blessings of that promise in a special way, the fulfilled promise that “The Glorified Christ Is with Us!”
