Psalm 110 – What Kind of King?

Old Testament saints longingly anticipated the future arrival of the Messiah, whom we now know is Jesus Christ. A frequently asked question among them was, “Who will he be?” Psalm 24 asks the question, “Who is this King of Glory?” Isaiah 63:1 asked the same question in similar words: “Who is this that comes from Edom?” David’s question regarding Messiah came from a different perspective. Not who is the king, but what kind of king is he? In Psalm 110, David, inspired by the Holy Spirit, describes Jesus the Messiah as: the mightiest King of all, a presently ruling King, and a priestly King forever.
