The 1960s rock band The Animals famously produced a song that sums up life without Christ: “It’s my life, and I’ll do what I want!” But the Christian life is better described by the words of a 19th-century hymn: “I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice, and it told thy love to me…Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord.”
Every sincere Christian longs to be nearer to his blessed Lord and seeks him for that purpose. Several in Jesus’s day were seeking, also, but not always as they should have been.
This sermon answers questions such as: Who seeks the Lord? Am I seeking him in the right manner? Do I seek him with the right motives and emphases? Are my priorities really in the right order? Finding his will for me, will I be faithful to follow?
