Mother’s Day is a special time in which we honor our blessed mothers, who God uses to give us life. The Old Testament character, Hannah, was a heartbroken young lady who longed so badly for a son that in her distress, she made a vow to God that if he would give her a son, she would dedicate that little one to God’s service all his life. God heard Hannah’s desperate plea, and she became the mother of one of the greatest men in Israel’s history. Hannah, realizing that God had heard her prayer, appropriately gave her infant son a name that means “Heard by God” in Hebrew. We know him as the great prophet Samuel. Learn here how Hannah’s troubles teach us that sometimes even the most devout in this present life endure great tribulations and how God can turn troubles into joy. The birth of the prophet Samuel to a distraught, young woman of a simple life teaches us that sometimes God, in His world, uses the most unlikely to be the most influential.
